Students considering study off campus should visit the Office of Global Education Web site: www.dickinson.edu/global for up-to-date information about Study Abroad. The handout Ten Top Tips for Study Abroad, available online (www.dickinson.edu/global/preparing/tips.html) and in the Office of Global Education, outlines the general process of preparing to study abroad.
With careful planning,
students in any major may study overseas. Students must have a declared
major before studying off campus during the academic year/semester. It
is important to plan the schedule for completing the major, and to verify
whether courses taken elsewhere will count towards the major. This is best
done in consultation with the advisor in the major field.
While it is possible
to complete some distribution requirements off campus, laboratory sciences,
comparative civilizations, languages, and physical education requirements
are often difficult to fulfill. Plan to complete these requirements before
the end of the sophomore year, as the range of appropriate 100 level courses
accessible during the senior year will be limited.
