World Languages
Global Study at Dickinson begins in the classroom. A focus
on global issues pervades the curriculum. And world languages,
in many ways, serve as the keystone of the academic
program. All students must reach at least the
intermediate level of accomplishment; all are encouraged to
continue well beyond.
Dickinson's preeminence in the study of world language is well
established. The College ranks among the nation's top three
institutions for foreign language majors, with thirteen percent of
each graduating class majoring in a foreign language.
Students also frequently pair the study of a foreign language with
the study of another academic discipline, often one from another
global dimension of the curriculum, to form a serious double-major
that makes active use of language skills.
