The Job Search for the International Student

Finding employment in the United States is usually a challenge for international students who are on an F-1 visa and may not otherwise have permission to work here. While F-1 students may be eligible for a one year training period after graduation, few employers are interested in hiring students for just one year. As a result, those international students who wish to remain in the US need to find employers who are willing to sponsor the change to the H-1B work visa. This change is costly, often requires significant legal work and takes at least six months to process. Most opportunities for international students lay in fields that require a high degree of technical skills and/or academic success.

In a joint effort, the career center and office of global education are providing the H1 Base website to assist international students in their US-based job search. This website contains databases of US organizations that have historically sponsored H-1B visas. It also contains significant information on obtaining an H-1B visa.

Access to this website is for Dickinson College students only. It requires a username and password available through the career center or office of global education.
