Career-Related Skills of History Majors
Decision Making: History majors use knowledge of past problems and trends to reach current decisions. Determining key questions and points of view, and weighing evidence and options to reach a conclusion are skills developed through the major.
Ability to Analyze Trends: History majors learn to predict shifts in political views or consumer tastes by observing trends.
Managing Information: History students collect, evaluate, and organize data.
Written & Oral Expression: Documenting a conclusion and presenting it clearly through speech and writing are skills strengthened by the history major.
Research: Majors learn to obtain information from texts and from observing cultural situations.
Close Reading: Majors learn to dissect texts and documents to understand the subtleties.
