How to Find an Internship

Finding an internship is a very manageable process if you prepare and start early. Here are some steps to make your internship search easier.

1. Attend the Internship Orientation.
This 30-minute session will introduce you to the resources available to help you in your search.

Times: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 2:00-2:30 pm (choose just one session)
Location: Biddle Conference Room
Who should attend: Anyone who needs an introduction to how to search for internships
Signing up: No sign up is needed.

2. Internship Web Links:
Check here for leads in the United States and abroad

3. Student Employment and Internship Fair:
Dickinson
's on-campus fair with local and on-campus employers.

4. Capital Region Internship Fair:
Career and internship fairs are good places to find internship opportunities. Each year, Dickinson is invited to participate in the internship fair at Penn State Harrisburg. To review how to make the best impression, click on Preparing for a Career or Internship Fair

5. DickinsonConnect:  
Information about various internship opportunities is available on-line through DickinsonConnect. Login information is provided on the initial page of the DickinsonConnect site. After logging into the system, click on "Internship," on the left hand side of the page. You can then search by geographic location and keyword.

6. Selective Liberal Arts Consortium (SLAC):
Recruiting for a variety of fields and employers

7. The Career Center library offers a number of internship guides that help students locate internships in specific fields. (Ex: Arts, Environment, Government, Human Rights, Sports, etc.)

4. Talk with your academic advisor. It is a good idea to make an appointment with your academic advisor to determine when an internship would best fit into your schedule. Some departments require internships, and your advisor will be able to answer questions about your department's requirement.

5. Meet with a career counselor in the Career Center. The Career Center staff can assist you with determining where you would like to intern, searching for internships, and corresponding with employers. Make sure you've first attended the Internship Orientation (see #1).
