What do I need to know to be helpful?

  1. The job market is volatile and hard to predict.
  2. Gaining experience is key to job search success: Students can gain valuable experience through internships, summer employment related to career goals, volunteering, and gaining leadership in on-campus clubs and activities related to their field.
  3. Most jobs are international in some respect.
  4. Job seeking methods have changed, but not really. The internet plays a role with employers averaging 8% of their hires through that pipeline. As the previous percentage suggests, the student who relies solely on the internet is conducting a poor job search. Networking is still the number one way to get a job with upwards of 70% of jobs gotten through this method.
