About Doc Durden and His Guide
William G. Durden

I have been a proud Dickinsonian for many years, both as president of the college and as an alumnus of the class of '71.
After receiving my B.A. degree in German, I went on to earn M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in German languages and literature from the Johns Hopkins University. During these studies I developed my passion for the language arts and for discussing issues of grammar and orthography.
Before returning to Dickinson in 1999, I was director of the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins for 16 years, while also serving as senior education consultant to the U.S. Department of State.
I also was president of the Sylvan Academy of Sylvan Learning Systems Inc. and vice president for academic affairs of the Caliber Learning Network, a joint distance-learning venture of Sylvan and MCI Corporation. Recently, I was appointed to the advisory board of the Center for the International Exchange of Scholars, Fulbright Scholar Program.
I hope that you both enjoy and benefit from a careful consideration of the issues I have raised in my English-grammar guide.
