Students in Professor Kingston's 400-level Substance Abuse Prevention course took what they learned in the classroom and applied it in the community.  One group worked with adolescents at an alternative school to create a photography exhibit, asking the teens to focus on aspects of their environment that were either supportive or challenging.  The exhibit was displayed at Dickinson, with students, community members, faculty, and local politicians invited.

Another student group took research on smokeless tobacco products and lobbied at the Capitol for changes in legislation regarding smokeless tobacco.

Yet another team of students worked with a various community groups: a student coalition, the National Guard, the sheriff's office, and local schools to create an effective public service announcement discouraging underage drinking.
