Senior Presents Research at German Studies Conference

Abigail Breckinridge '11 and Professor Sarah MGaughey attended the first annual Undergraduate Conference in German Studies at Moravian College. Abigail presented her paper "Implications for the Future of American Economic Dominance. The German Response to the 2008 Financial Crisis".

Organized by Moravian College and LaFayette College, the program included undergraduates from schools throughout the region, including Bryn Mawr College, Haverford College, Kutztown University, and Lehigh University. Students presented on a broad array of German Studies topics, from Medieval German hagiography to the 1990 German monetary union.

Faculty Recognizes Excellence at Gartenfest 2011

President William G. and Dr. Elke Durden hosted Gartenfest 2011 at their beautiful home on April 25. German students and faculty gathered to bid farewell to seniors and to recognize student achievements in the study of German.

Senior Prizes for Excellence awarded to:

The Heinrich Böll Prize  -  Kelsey Power

          A cash prize awarded to a senior student majoring in German for excellence in the study of German literature.

The Marion Dexter Learned Prize  -  Abigail Breckinridge  

          A cash prize awarded to a senior student majoring in German for highest achievement in the study of German language and culture.

The Wieland Endowed Prize  -  Braeden Eastman

          A cash prize awarded to a senior student majoring in German who has demonstrated the most excellent achievements in the field of German overall.

The Liselotte von Usedom Beach Scholarship -  Faith Andrews

Urkunde (Certificate) for Outstanding Class Achievement 

Each year, one student in each German class receives an Urkunde (Certificate) for outstanding achievement. Professor Kamaal Haque, Professor Sarah McGaughey, Professor Antje Pfannkuchen, and Adjunct Professor Todd Bryant presented certificates to Michelle Kyper, John Gallagher, Hillary Rosen, Faith Andrews, Allison Murawski, Karina Rabinowitz, Abigail Carson, Lauren Jonas, Theodore Bennett, Nguyen Le, Ryan Steinbock, Alexandra Seglias, and Kia Pipkin.
