Salary Grade: housing, plus $6000 per semester

General Summary of Responsibilities: The Women’s Center at Dickinson College is a Student Development resource center that offers education in three key areas: gender and sexuality, including gender fluidity, sex-positive violence prevention education, and relationship and sexual violence victim support and advocacy; supportive community for women-identified and LGBTQ students, faculty and staff; and student development and leadership opportunities.
The Center is offering a graduate student opportunity to advance his or her own education while gaining work experience by serving as a Program Coordinator for an average of 20 hours per week. Living on campus is required for this position and housing will be provided. Students seeking a degree in Counseling/Student Affairs, Women’s and Gender Studies, or Ethnic Studies/Multicultural Affairs are especially encouraged to apply. The graduate assistant will be directly supervised by the Director and attend weekly supervisory meetings to develop and accomplish specific program goals.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field
- Effective inter-personal skills
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong program or event planning experience
- Strong multitasking abilities
- Research skills and analytical abilities
- Experience in one or more of the target focus areas of women’s empowerment, violence prevention, outreach and support to diverse constituencies, and/or higher education
- Sensitivity to and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Willingness to work in reasonable collaboration with student schedules, including events or meetings on evenings and weekends as needed
Essential Functions:
- Maintaining open lines of communication with campus partners, including faculty, staff and administrators, student residential staff, student organizations, and informal student constituencies
- Assume primary responsibility for organizing for campus events, including activities for Fat Talk Free Week/Body Appreciation Week, National Coming Out Day, Women’s History Month, and Sexual Assault Awareness Month (Take Back the Night and other programs)
- Support additional, ad-hoc Women’s Center programs based on student need and institutional capacity
- Support student leadership on outreach to educate the campus community about Women’s Center services, resources, and programs
- Provide occasional evening office hours according to student need
- Act as a mentor and partner educator for student volunteers and interns
Marginal Functions:
- Attending Student Life Division Meetings monthly and other pertinent professional meetings as needed/directed.
- Preparing internal and external reports as necessary.
- Working in a cooperative office environment with Diversity Initiatives and the Conflict Resolution Resource Center.
