Professors Asunción Arnedo and Mark Aldrich from the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, in conjunction with the Center for Global Education, led a group of thirteen students on a trip to Cuba over winter break as part of Professor Arnedo’s Spanish 231 class, the Globally Integrated Course “Sustainability in Hispanic Contexts,” which continues during the current semester. The group was hosted by the Martin Luther King Center in Havana. The trip lasted twelve days, during which time the group learned about sustainable agriculture and Cuba’s national health system. The class, through lectures, readings, and endless personal conversations with Cubans, considered questions of social justice, economic development, and freedom of expression, among many other topics. At the end of the semester, students will offer multimedia presentations to the Dickinson community in an event hosted by the Center for Global Engagement and Studies.
