Visiting FAQs

Q.

How should I prepare for my campus visit?

A.

To prepare for your visit to Dickinson, you should begin by learning basic information about the college. Our Web site is a good place to start. Here are a few links to help you begin your search:

When you are ready to schedule your visit, call the admissions office at 800-644-1773.

Q.

What should I do during a first visit to campus?

A.

During your visit to campus you should focus on understanding the character and personality of Dickinson and how you may potentially fit with the opportunities available. For first-time visitors, we strongly encourage you to:

  • register for an open house or special visit program
  • OR
  • schedule an information session and tour.

You may consider scheduling an interview if you feel confident that your research has provided you with a sufficient introduction to Dickinson.

To determine what is best for you, call the admissions office at 800-644-1773.

Q.

What am I likely to see and hear during an open house or special visit program?

A.

We will show you what it is like to be a member of the Dickinson community. While formats for open houses and special visit programs can vary, generally you may expect the following:

  • greeting and discussion of the Dickinson Dimensions by dean of admissions and senior administrators
  • campus tour led by one of our Liberty Caps (student volunteer tour guides)
  • various student/faculty/administrator panels on such topics as academic programs, student life, global education, career/graduate school counseling, internships and research opportunities
  • lunch in the dining hall
  • admissions and financial aid "nuts and bolts" panel.

An open house or special visit program typically begins with registration and a light breakfast and finishes in the early afternoon.

For more information, call the admissions office at 800-644-1773 or see Dickinson Dimensions Days.

Q.

Why should I attend an information session? What will I see or hear there?

A.

Why sit through one more college information session? All information sessions are not the same. At Dickinson, our information session is meant to help you understand how Dickinson is distinctive from the many other small liberal-arts colleges. Through student and faculty stories, we hope to give you a good sense of Dickinson's "personality," what we have to offer, how our application process works and how you may fit into our community. Scheduling a campus tour with your information session will give you the most complete introduction to Dickinson College.

To schedule your visit, call the admissions office at 800-644-1773.

Q.

What am I likely to see and hear on a campus tour?

A.

A campus tour is great way for you to interact with our students. Led by a member of our Liberty Cap Society, tours offer an opportunity to capture and understand the energy of Dickinson College through the eyes of students who are living the Dickinson experience. A tour also will show you how the campus and facilities reflect our useful, engaged approach to teaching as well as our heritage and tradition. Scheduling an information session with your tour will give you the most complete introduction to Dickinson College.

To schedule your visit, call the admissions office at 800-644-1773.

Q.

What is an evaluative interview and should I have one?

A.

Interviewing can help us assess personal experiences, motivation, maturity and your potential fit with Dickinson. Before you schedule an interview, please note:

  • Participating in an interview is not required for admission.
  • Notes taken by members of our staff during an interview will be added to your admission file.

Q.

How should I prepare for an interview?

A.

Participating in other visit activities (information session and tour; open house; special visit program) prior to an interview is one of the easiest and best ways to prepare. Our Web site is another useful tool in preparing for your visit.

  • It is recommended that you bring an unofficial transcript and activities resumé to your meeting.
  • You may also want to prepare thoughtful questions you can ask during your visit.
If you have any other questions, please contact the admissions office at 800-644-1773.
