Why did you decide to enroll at a community college and then to pursue a liberal-arts education? And why Dickinson?
I am from Russia, and community college gave me extra time for adaptation to another culture prior to pursuing a bachelor’s degree in private school.
I also like challenges, and it was definitely not easy for me to apply to Dickinson. Since I was transferring from community college, I was told that I had very little chance to get accepted to private school, especially considering my financial background. Nevertheless, being confident in my knowledge and skills, I took a chance and applied. And I still consider enrollment at Dickinson one of my small victories in life.
Is there a particular academic experience during your time at Dickinson that stands out as most meaningful/influential?
I took so many great classes at Dickinson, so it is hard to name just one. For example, the Leadership in Four Directions course gave me a lot of great ideas, techniques and tools for personal development that I can use not only for a future job but also in everyday routine. This class was just outstanding. I highly recommend it to other students.
How did your participation in extracurricular opportunities help you become integrated into the social community at Dickinson? And how were those extracurricular involvements critical to your Dickinson experience?
I tried several clubs and organizations at Dickinson but I did not join any of them. All extra time that I have from studying I devoted to my internship site. I think it was the best option for me, since now upon graduation I have built a resume that I am proud of.
How have you been influenced by the Dickinson network, and how do you plan to give back to the college as a member of the alumni community?
I believe that the most meaningful way I can contribute to the Dickinson community after graduation is to help students to find internships. I plan to stay in touch with the Career Center to keep them updated about any available internship opportunities.
What are your plans for post-graduation?
At this moment I am applying for OPT, which is a special one-year program for international students. Afterwards, I want to go to graduate school to get my master's degree in finance.
