Project review timetable
Research for review may be submitted beginning with the first day of any semester the College is in session. Normally, no student research projects are reviewed during the last three weeks of a semester. Research is reviewed as it is submitted.
Researchers will usually receive notice of exemption from review within ten days of submitting the complete proposal for exemption to the departmental reviewer.
Researchers will usually receive a response from the IRB on expedited reviews within fourteen days of submitting a properly completed review form. A fourteen-day review timetable also holds for full reviews that are identified as such by the researcher upon submission to the departmental representative. Proposals which are submitted for expedited review, but which reviewers recommend for full IRB review, may require additional time. It is therefore useful for researchers to familiarize themselves with the IRB guidelines. Also, when classes are not in session or when faculty are usually away from campus (semester breaks, holidays, vacations, etc.), all reviews will take more time to complete. Careful review takes precedence over meeting a timetable, and the IRB will work diligently to provide timely reviews. While the members of the IRB are committed to expeditious reviews, instructor or general course deadlines are not relevant to IRB review timetables
Faculty should work closely with their students who are preparing to submit a research plan to the IRB. The faculty member supervising student research should submit the proposal to the departmental reviewer.
