Spanish Lecture Series:

Don Quijote de la Mancha, los vascos en el exilio y nacionalcatolicismo 

Professors Josè Àngel Ascunce Arrieta and Marìa Luisa Carmen San Miguel Casillas, Universidad de Deusto in San Sebastián, Spain, will be at Dickinson to present a lecture series March 28-30.

Talk by Josè Àngel Ascunce

Biscayans, Moors and Delinquents : Chapters I,8 and I,9 of the Quijote bring together a Biscayan, a moorish narrator, a moorish translator and a Christian narrator.  What does this surprising situation mean in a divided Spain?

Book presentation

The book co-edited by Ascunce and Prof. Alberto Rodriguez,  Haz lo que temas, La novelista de Raul Guerra Garrido, will be presented and briefly discussed by the co-editors and by one of the books contributors, Prof. Mark Aldrich.

Lecture by Maria San Miguel on Basque immigration to Latin America 

The Exiles of the Civil War (1936-1939):  Between Repression and Disenchantment.  Many supporters of the Spanish republic had to go into exile after they expressed their criticism of the Franco regime. Many found refuge in Mexico.

Lecture by Jose Angel Ascunce on the culture of Frano Spain. 

The Nationalist Catholicism in Spain:  a Totalitarian Culture. The spirit of domination of the totalitarian regime has the purpose of making the various social and ideological groups conform to its discipline and its rigid point of view.
