The American Center at RSUH

"One of the ways we connected with Russian students at our university was by helping out at the American Center once a week. The Russian students were excited to speak to native English speakers, and we were eager to make Russian friends, so the American Center provided a perfect meeting spot. Over tea and cookies, we would spend an hour or more talking first in English and then in Russian. As our friendships developed, we started to get together informally for coffee, movies, and concerts. Because university life in Russia is very different from that in the States, the American Center  provided us with a way to connect with Russian students who shared similar interests," - Erica Lally '08

"In our semester abroad in Moscow, our small group of four took classes at RSUH with other international students, hailing from Japan, England, South Korea, France, the Czech Republic, Sweden and more. Matt, Yvonne, Carrie and I also actively participated in a weekly club pairing Russian students studying English and U.S. Foreign Policy with American students studying in Moscow. Our discussions ranged from the mundane (“Why do Americans love peanut butter so much?”) to the more serious (“Russian military action in the Caucasus and Central Asia”), and the learning was never unidirectional," - Caitlin Rice '09
