Katherine Leibel (Psyc '12), is first author on a study published in the July 2011 issue of Nicotine and Tobacco Research. In their article, "Barring interventions? Lesbian and gay bars as underutilized venues for tobacco interventions," Leibel and co-authors in the Department of Family Medicine of the UNC School of Medicine argue that the success of including gay and lesbian bars in HIV prevention campaigns suggests that anti-smoking interventions might benefit from using similar strategies to identify and contact tobacco users.

The article was published online in April 2011, while Leibel was studying abroad. In summer 2010 she worked at UNC's School of Medicine.

Congratulations to Katherine!
