Dickinson’s involvement at Mycenae, Greece, has been highly publicized in international media, such as the
Archaeology Magazine
(extensive article in the Jan/Feb 2008 issue, cf.
http://mycenae-excavations.org/pdf/Archaeology%20Magazine.pdf
), the Patriot News, the History Channel, the Greek and Chinese State TV (cf. video clips at
http://mycenae-excavations.org/news.html
), and the USA Today (
http://traveltips.usatoday.com/famous-palaces-ancient-greece-55647.html
). Dickinson
has established privileged access to one of the most important archaeological sites worldwide, Mycenae, where, under the auspices of the Athens Archaeological Society we conduct the systematic excavation in the citadel, the extensive geophysical survey of the surrounding region, and the large-scale excavation outside the walls, which led to the startling discovery of the Lower Town of Mycenae (cf.
http://mycenae-excavations.org
). Many Dickinson students and alumni participate in the Mycenae excavations every year to get top field training and research opportunities (for photos/video of students at work, cf.
http://mycenae-excavations.org/photos.html
). The Mycenae international excavation team numbers 85 members (including 30 undergraduate and 20 graduate students, 20 archaeologists and specialists, 15 workmen) (cf.
http://mycenae-excavations.org/people.html
).
