Study Abroad
Many universities claim they have strong study abroad programs, but few match Dickinson's. What's the key difference? Most places outsource study abroad opportunities. They rely on others--third party providers. Put it this way: suppose as a prospective student you asked if a college had an English department and were told, "No, we rely on someone else to teach English." You'd probably cross that place right off your list. Yet for study abroad that kind of outsourcing is common. Dickinson, by contrast, has established its own network of high quality programs with partner universities abroad, and most of our students go to these Dickinson centers. We see it differently. Dickinson works to guarantee the quality of the abroad experience and to see that it fits with the educational program on our home campus.
To this end, Dickinson College has become one of the most respected colleges in the world with regard to the development of study abroad programs. Dickinson now sponsors more than 40 programs on six continents in 24 countries. These options include academic year programs, semester programs, and summer programs. Globally integrated courses that include a January international field experience, and specialized programs that combine domestic study with international study, such as the Mosaic Program.
