New International Students
Welcome to the Dickinson community! As a new international student, you undoubtedly have many questions about immigration procedures and preparing for your travel, as well as questions about life in the United States. Our goal is to provide you the support and resources you need to transition to your life at Dickinson.
If you are joining Dickinson as a degree-seeking student, you can find information on the International Admitted Students section of the Admissions website.
If you are joining Dickinson as a semester or year-long exchange student, most of your pre-departure information will come directly from our office by email and through your pre-departure packet. Some information varies based on your particular program.
It is important for all international students to plan travel dates well in advance of the school year. Listed below are important dates for you to consider before you purchase any tickets for your travel.
Important Housing Dates for International Students
2011-2012
August 20-21: NEWinternational students arrive on campus
August 27-28: RETURNING international students arrive on campus
October 14-18: Fall Pause [begins 5pm Oct. 14]
- Residence Halls remain OPEN; meal plan remains ACTIVE
November 22-27: Thanksgiving Break [begins 5pm Nov. 22]
- Residence Halls remain OPEN; meal plan is NOT ACTIVE
December 12-17: Final Exams
December 18: Residence Halls CLOSE AT NOON FOR ALL STUDENTS (Students are expected to leave campus housing on this date or within 24 hours of their last exam, whichever comes sooner.)
Students needing transportation to the train/bus station or airport in Harrisburg can pay to use the shuttle service provided by the Department of Public Safety: http://www.dickinson.edu/student-life/campus-safety/transportation/
December 18-January 1: NO CAMPUS HOUSING AVAILABLE!!!
**Please make your plans early!! No housing will be available on campus during this time. Assistance in finding local host families will be provided by Campus Life during the fall semester.**
January 2-January 20: LIMITED HOUSING AVAILABLE for a fee for students who request break housing prior to the deadline. No meal plan will be available. Housing request forms will be available at the beginning of the semester and will be due to the Office of Campus Life by November 19. NOTE: Students who request housing for this period will be placed in temporary accommodations and will not be able to access their normal residence hall assignment.
January 21: Residence halls re-open for returning students

March 9-18: Spring Break [begins 5pm Mar. 9]
- Residence Halls remain OPEN; meal plan is NOT ACTIVE
May 7-15:Final Exams
May 16: Residence Halls CLOSE AT NOON FOR ALL STUDENTS EXCEPT GRADUATING SENIORS (Students are expected to leave campus housing on this date or within 24 hours of their last exam, whichever comes sooner.)
May 20: Commencement
May 20: Graduating seniors must leave campus housing no later than 7:00PM.
