Transportation
Whether speeding across campus to catch your 9:00am class, or heading across the country to visit friends and family over Spring Break, there are plenty of transportation options at Dickinson College to keep you moving, and keep your footprint light.
Dickinson Red Bike Loan Program
Carlisle is filled with flat, wide roads, friendly drivers, and plenty of places to explore in town. Why not hop on a bike and cruise the town? The Dickinson Red Bikes are available to check out and are free to all Dickinson community members. The college owns over twenty red mountain and basket cruisers to help you get around campus or to local shopping venues. To sign one out, simply bring your student ID to the Department of Public Safety Office (DPS) in Kaufman Hall. Locks are provided, and helmets are available upon request.
Rideshare Board
Carsharing is beneficial to your wallet, your social life, and the planet. Sharing a trip with someone means you both pay less for gas, you may meet someone new or have time to catch up with old friends, and you use less gas, therefore lowering your carbon footprint. It's easy to sign up for Rideshare if you are a member of the Dickinson community - just click on the link below and follow the prompts. http://www.dickinson.edu/students/rideboard/

Carlisle Road Diet
Thanks in part to a contribution from Dickinson College to fund a study on local traffic patterns, Carlisle has received full funding from the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) for a $2.8 million road diet that will reduce
the number of lanes along High and Hanover streets – including the
section of West High Street through the Dickinson College campus – from
four lanes to two.
The change will affect High Street from Cherry Street to South Spring
Garden Street, and South Hanover Street from High Street to Noble Blvd.
near the Interstate 81 interchange.
Five-foot wide bicycle lanes will be added to each side of High Street
– a move that is in keeping with the commitment by the borough and
college to sustainability and active living.
Motorists will be limited to one lane in each direction and use a
center lane for turns. The plan calls for the use of decorative stamped
asphalt on the center lane through the Dickinson campus.
The PennDOT grant will cover the entire cost of
the project. Dickinson contributed more than $50,000 toward traffic
surveys of the High Street corridor.
