February 2012 Search Update
The following e-mail was distributed to Dickinson community members on February 21, 2012:
To
the Dickinson College Community:
On
behalf of the Presidential Search Committee, I want to bring the Dickinson
community up-to-date on the process to select the college’s 28th president. I
am pleased to announce that a 17-member search committee has been formed
representing members of the Board of Trustees, alumni, faculty and students.
Joining me on the committee will be:
- Michael
Bloom ’69, trustee
-
Jim Chambers ’78, trustee
-
Andrew Chesley ’13, student
-
John Curley ’60, trustee
-
Frank James ’79, trustee
-
Lorelei Koss, associate professor of mathematics
-

Judaic Studies

Additionally,
Karen Neely Faryniak ’86, chief of staff and secretary of the college, is
serving as the committee’s coordinator.
These
individuals represent the breadth of Dickinson, and every one of us is
committed to finding the best candidate to bring forward to the full Board of
Trustees as the college’s next president. I am looking forward to working with
them on this most important task.
Our
first order of business will be to select a national consultant to partner with
us in the search process. We are currently reviewing proposals from
several firms and will be back in touch when a selection has been made. A
critical part of the process will be the opportunity for the campus
community to meet with representatives of the selected search firm as they
begin their work with us—particularly in terms of learning our desired
qualities and qualifications for the next president. During the
representatives’ time on campus and in the community, we will ensure that all
of our key constituencies have the opportunity to engage in what must be, by
definition, a robust dialogue. This will include time with the class of 2015
since this class has expressed great interest in the search process.
In
the meantime, if you have any comments or suggestions that you would like to
pass along to the Presidential Search Committee, you may do so at the following
e-mail address: presidentialsearch@dickinson.edu.
With
thanks for your support,
Thomas L.
Kalaris ’76

Vice Chair, Board of Trustees
