Friday, September 28

Students and parents can enjoy the beautiful fall weather on campus.

8 a.m.–7 p.m. Welcome Center and Registration  Holland Union Building, East Social Hall

All day  Attend Friday Classes  Most Friday classes are open for visitors. Times and locations available at registration and on the Web site later this fall.  

 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Exhibits at The Trout Gallery 

  • The Floating World- Ukiyo-e Prints from the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art (lower level) During Japan’s Edo (Tokogawa) period (1615–1868), the art of ukiyo-e woodblock printmaking reached a high water mark in quality, brilliance and innovation. The exhibition features a range of subjects including theatrical actors and musicians, genre scenes, still-lifes and landscapes.
  • PARIS . . . Toujours   (upper level) Presents travel vignettes of the City of Light through a collection of works through etchings, lithographs, drawings, and book engravings. Designed with the armchair traveler in mind. Weiss Center for the Arts, The Trout Gallery

 10:15 a.m. Admissions Information Session and 11 a.m. Campus Tour High-school students and their families are encouraged to attend this informative session. Please contact the Office of Admissions at 800-644-1773 to register. Meet at the Waidner Admissions House. 

11 a.m.-2 p.m. Dickinson Farm Produce Stand HUB lobby 

11 a.m.–1 p.m.  Lunch  All you can eat for $10.25 for adults and $7 for children under 10.  You may pay at the door, or parents may use their student’s flex meal plan. Holland Union Building, Dining Hall

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. United Way Ice Cream Stand HUB lobby

3-4 p.m. College Farm Tour Located six miles from campus, the Dickinson College Farm is a resource for sustainable agricultural practices and renewable energy. More than 85% of the crops grown at the farm go to the College Dining Hall. The remaining crops are harvest for the farm's campus Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, our student-run produce stand at the local farmers' market and as donations to our local food bank, Project SHARE. This diversified farm also serves as a resource for academic interests. Students and faculty use the farm for research, independent studies, field labs, internships and as an outdoor classroom. The farm also boasts innovative solar projects, rotational grazing and a model composting program. Directions will be available at registration. The tour will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. 553 Park Drive, Boiling Springs, PA 17007. Vans, departing promptly at 2:30 p.m., are available on a first-come, first serve basis in the ATS parking lot.

3 p.m. Campus Tour  Meet at the Waidner Admissions House

 4-5 p.m. “A Pinnacle of Printmaking: Japanese Color Woodcuts in Edo” Andrew Stevens, Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, Chazan Museum of Art, University of Wisconsin–Madison, will give a public lecture. Free to the public, Weiss Center for the Arts, Room 235

4:45–7 p.m. Dining at Dickinson  Experience the Dining Hall just as your child does. All you can eat for $14.25 for adults and $10 for children under 10 (included in the student meal plan). You may pay at the door, or parents may use their student’s flex meal plan. Holland Union Building, Dining Hall

5 p.m. Bike to the Farm and Movie Free event open to all Dickinson students, faculty, staff and families: a 6.7 mile easy ride for all levels of bikers. Come see the farm, get exercise, hang out with friends and eat great local foods prepared by Dickinsonians. Meet at Dickinson Public Safety parking lot at 5 p.m. to depart together. Bring a dish to share, and staff will drive your food to the farm. Return transportation is provided for bikes and people. A showing of the movie "To Make a Farm" starts at 7:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required for transportation purposes. A limited supply of bikes can be reserved through Public Safety in the Kauffman Building. To register, e-mail sustainability@dickinson.edu.

5-7 p.m.  Weekend Welcome Reception Come celebrate the kickoff of  Homecoming & Family Weekend in the Trout Gallery.  Weiss Center for the Arts.

6 p.m. Asbell Center Shabbat Services and Dinner Students will lead Shabbat services and a kosher dinner will be served in the Stern Center Great Room following the services. Please RSVP with the number of people attending to jewishlife@dickinson.edu (Attendance at the service is not required to attend the dinner.) Stern Great Room

7 p.m. LGBTQA Pride @ Dickinson Reception Join us as we celebrate the opening of the new Office of LGBTQ Services at Dickinson and engage with the newly appointed Director. Make plans to attend this Homecoming & Family Weekend event, where LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Allies) alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and community members will join together to celebrate this new initiative and connect to build a vibrant and inclusive Dickinson community. Share your ideas, bring your history, and learn about how you can support LGBTQ and ally students in the Dickinson community as this new Office grows. 9-5 p.m. The Handlebar Open House   The Handlebar is a student-run bike shop that aims to increase bicycle use and knowledge on the Dickinson campus and in Carlisle Community. Through hands-on learning and skill sharing, students, faculty, staff and Carlisle community members can learn to fix a bicycle, maintain a bicycle, and become well versed in biking laws and etiquette. 2-4 p.m. Saving Tradition by Saving Seed We are avid seed savers at the Dickinson College Farm and want to share our love of seeds with you! We will share our strategies for plant selection and fun ways to collect, process and save seed for next year’s garden! Learn easy ways to save your garden traditions through this hands-on workshop! A Partnership between PASA’s Good Food Neighborhood Program and Dickinson College Farm. Due to an enthusiastic response to the workshop series, we will be requiring RSVP’s for all workshops. Stop by WDCV's Studio for a tour of our digs in the lower level of the HUB.  Check out our timeline of WDCV's history in the hallway leading up to the station.  The studio will be open for Alumni DJs so bring some music along or just get behind the mic again and tell Dickinson & Carlisle what you have been up to. Mingle with alums and current DJs, eat some snacks, reminisce, tell us secrets about WDCV that we never would have known!

Sunday, September 30

 8:30–10 a.m. President's Breakfast The President will address families, student and alumni at 9 a.m. followed by a question-and-answer session. This breakfast is a catered event and not part of the student meal plan. Tickets for this breakfast must be purchased in advance through the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement or at registration. $15 for adults and students and $10 for children under 10.  

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Army Heritage Museum’s World War II North African Campaign Living History Event Army Heritage Museum

11 a.m. The 8th Annual Run For Steph  A 5K run/2-mile walk in memory of Stephanie Kreiner ’03, who was killed by a drunk driver in October 2004. All proceeds will benefit the McAndrews Fund for Athletics. The cost to participate is $15 per person, $20 per person with T-shirt and $5 for children under 10. You may preregister or pay the day of the race from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  For more information contact the Athletics Office at 717-245-1320. Registration, post-race food and awards will be held at the Kline Center. Pets are prohibited in the Kline Center
